School
It sucks (and we all know it).
Homework is drudgery.
Going to classes we’re compelled to attend is boring.
Waking up in the morning to go to 7th grade isn’t joy.
But
But without school, the poor wouldn’t be educated!
But are the poor educated now?
But I went to school and turned out okay!
But are you sure you’re not one of the 70% of Americans who don’t like their jobs? Is that turning okay?
But if we only pay teachers more it will be better!
But would six figure salaries change the fact that young people are compelled to learn against their wills?
But we need to prepare kids for the real world. Sometimes adult life sucks.
But why does adult life suck?
Maybe
Maybe it’s time to build a better world from the ground up. It’s already happening.
Maybe real learning is voluntary.
Maybe real learning is self-directed.
Maybe real learning starts with curiosity, not curriculum.
Deep down
We all know this. Because deep down, there is a child within us. The child who didn’t really want to school.
