Meaning and Memory

Typically, a meaningful life is thought of in terms of pursuing projects, experiences, and relationships that matter.

But meaning also goes backwards.

Meaning is in the memories formed via those projects, experiences, and relationships.

It’s the narrative that is weaved.

It’s looking at photos from your Utah trip 10 years ago.
It’s reflecting on the concert you performed in Ukraine.
It’s recalling the adversity you endured in Michigan, to taste your present fruits.

It’s singing Silent Night once again, and attaching a new moment to all the others.

It’s looking back at life (at the very end), with a sighing smile of satisfaction.
