I’ve begun How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins.
Here are my notes, pg. 1-19:
- Selling is freedom. It’s on you. Each day is an adventure. That autonomy yields challenge, but also joy.
- Selling is satisfying. You get to go home and know you helped someone improve their life through value exchange. You created win-win.
- Selling is the ultimate learned skill. “Natural” is a myth. Sure, an elite athlete might have more talent in the genes, but ultimately it’s about reps. This fits perfectly with my knowledge of skill acquisition as I’ve studied and applied via Daniel Coyle’s work (The Talent Code and The Little Book of Talent)
- A tennis player’s Primary Tool is his racquet. A seller’s (influencer’s) Primary Tool is his mouth. You don’t need to be perfect, but know that every word counts. I love that because it teams with my interest to write, minimalism, and rehearsal technique as a conductor. As Scott Adams says, prune your sentences.
