Visualizing your desired future is powerful.
You can choose to derive value from visualization, or you can dismiss it as “hokey Law of Attraction stuff.”
Choosing to derive value does not mean “believing in nonsense.”
There are no free passes or shortcuts to cause and effect. Visualizing does not *automatically* bring about future reality (of course).
Yes, taking concrete action is necessary (of course).
Okay, we cleared up the baggage.
So, what, in reality, does visualization offer?
1) Dreaming big. If you never even *think it’s possible* to own a business, to fall in love, to earn 6 figures, you won’t. If you never *conceptualize* the future, how will it happen? Sure, it could be possible you accidentally achieve something without dreaming it (I do advocate 80% daily action and 20% long term dreaming). But life ain’t a dress rehearsal. Be vivid in your aims.
2) Subconscious informing of your daily decisions. When you take time to feel the pleasure of what an amazing future could look like, your daily decisions begin taking you in that direction (if you maintain awareness of the vision). Your WHY is defined, which fuels habits like:
– Getting up early to do your Most Important Task
– Beating procrastination
– Moving through discomfort
– Avoiding distraction
One Caveat
Don’t get tricked.
The mind can fool you into feeling/thinking you already achieved a dream, just by imagining it. You get the nice endorphin rush in picturing your epic future.
Don’t get tricked. Do the work.
Because achieving the dream will be even better than the vision of it.
Another Caveat
Don’t get locked in to a dream. Allow your growth to fuel evolution of your dream. There’s no obedience here. Just possibility.
Go get after it.
