(Don’t) Share Your Ambitions

Is it best to share your ambitions with others, or should you keep them a secret?

Some say share, because you need someone to hold you accountable for acting on your mission.  Plus, sharing your dreams could help you gain perspective, new information, and resources to actually accomplish (20′) your dreams.

On the other hand, broadcasting your big goals may give you an endorphin release, tricking you into thinking you’ve already achieved, when in reality nothing has occurred.

Which approach is true?  Both.  What matters most is if you have an action plan in place.

If your goal and your path to achievement is vivid, don’t tell anyone, just steadily take the next actions.  Only use an accountability partner if the person can provide regular check-in/follow up about moving forward on your action list.  Stay grounded, and avoid the false endorphins.

If your ambitions are broad, “someday/hopefully” dreams, without actions laid out, you need to jiggle the ideas free.  Bounce them off of others until you can clarify goals and strategy.

Be cognizant, and allow both truths to assist you.

And remember, “Someday” is not a day of the week.

Cheers,
Joel
