Begin With The (Very) End in Mind

Many are familiar with Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind.

Straightforward enough.  Develop a vivid vision of what is you desire to achieve, and you will intuitively direct all decisions and actions towards that end.

What if you went further, to the ultimate macro perspective?

Begin with your deathbed in mind.

Move past the initial morbidity of this, and leverage the power of the mental exercise.  Time continues to move forward, and you continue to be you.  One moment you will realize: this is the very end of your precious life.

Connect to that future self.  Did you truly do what you wanted with your gift of existence?

Did you harness intimate, honest, and connected relationships?
Did you travel to New Zealand?
Did you read the books you meant to read?

Did you do what made YOU come alive?

Did you stay at a job you hate because it was convenient?
Were you afraid to express how you really felt to the people closest to you?
Did you get lost in the mundaneness of everyday life, and lose sight of what really matters?

Did you brush aside this blog post and keep on living the way you always do?
