The Fulfillment of Eating Kale

I have a unique relationship with kale, particularly raw kale. When I eat raw kale, I feel like a million bucks. The dense micronutrients of this superfood invigorate my energy and perk my mental clarity.

My taste buds are not impressed, however. I have to push through a wall of slight displeasure before the million dollar feeling presents itself.

This wall is analogous to the capital R Resistance that is the barrier between the satisfaction, purpose, meaning and fulfillment that are awarded from the achievement of difficult activities, be it meditation, push-ups, waking up early, podcasting, paying off debt, preparing scores, or asserting oneself honestly in a conversation.

In the very moment, it’s not desired. Once you start and complete though, you reap benefits and build confidence.

This is not to say pleasure is distinct from satisfaction, purpose, and meaning. Often times pleasure and purpose can be intertwined. And most definitely, I’m not advocating doing activities that you despise, ones that disgust you.

If you’re going to “gag” on it, don’t do it.

But going towards obstacles, challenges, and Resistance is the only way to unlock the possibility within. Embracing challenge is the only way to experience the flow state. It’s that initial choice to exert effort that is the catalyst towards a healthy and uplifting life.

What challenges await your fulfillment?
