Confront

The most courageous work you can do is to stare your deepest layers of terror directly in the eye.

The elephant in the room is, we were hurt as children.

Love withdrawal, punishment, physical striking, fear.

Some had more hurt than others, but virtually, we all went through it.

It’s the cycle. Our parents went through it too.

We can extend compassion for self and others. We can mourn the cycle.

To confront our truth head on is the big golden key to the city.

It’s the path to human liberation. To a world of authenticity and harmony.

Our little child self is exiled behind the parts of us that guard and protect from the pain.

We can ask those guards, momentarily, to step aside.

We can connect with the small child.

He is worthy of being seen. He is worthy of love.

This is the real work.

It’s enormously difficult to process the past, but we can extend ourselves empathy for that challenge, and appreciation for the courage to start.

Imagine your 6-year old self, sitting quietly by the river.

Would you, gently, say hello to him?
