How to Empower Your Negative Feelings

 

 

Run towards your nervousness.

Run towards your disappointment.

Run towards your sadness.

Run towards your fear.

When you sense your feelings, you can try and “control” them, and “not let them get the best of you,” and override them with strictly “positive thinking.”  But they won’t go away.

Be freaking honest with yourself.  Be honest with reality.  Life’s too short.

Name your emotions.  Name the facts.  Own all parts of yourself.  Better yet, rate the degree of intensity of the feeling on a scale of 1-10.

Feeling nervous about that audition?  Accept it.

Disappointed about the mistake you made?  Admit it.

Sad about your sports team losing?  Own it.

Afraid people will make fun of you?  Embrace it.

When you accept yourself, the difficult feelings will actually assuage.  You will connect to yourself.  You will develop a trust that you will endure your experience and make the best choices possible.

Only when you accept your current situation can you move forward to create a better one.
