I Almost Didn’t Write This Post

Inspiration begins while working.

I heard this quote from a friend last summer and it’s been ruminating with me since.  It seems to split the difference between polarizing concepts with which I’ve been wrestling:

Concept #1
Don’t force yourself to do things.  If you constantly use willpower to engage in an activity, you will prohibit sustained energy and commitment.  Work smart not hard.  Embrace your fallibility.

Concept #2
When you don’t feel like doing something is when you need to do it most.  It’s easy to win when everything’s going dandy, but can you win when things are down and depleted?   As Nick Saban preaches, “grind daily, celebrate rarely.”

What I’m realizing is both are truths, depending on contexts and the lenses through which you perceive circumstances.

Flash forward to 2 hours ago.  After 23 consecutive days of blogging on my 30 day challenge, I was feeling tired, didn’t have a specific topic planned, and I was about to end the streak.

I considered the concepts and considered the quote.

I’m glad I wrote this post.
