Self-Love is such a Self-Help term.
It makes senses that many ignore it.
Because Self-Help as a brand sucks.
It implies forced affirmations and silver bullets.
But if you knock away the debris, you get to the juice.
Self-Love is what we need. In a totally real way, it means:
– noticing what’s actually going on for you, rather than pushing through things
– taking time to write or journal, to check in with your inner world
– cultivating appreciation for your own traits
– saying no when you want to say no
– knowing you’re worthy of love exactly as you are
If you notice a part of you that’s still turned off by Self-Help, notice that part and welcome it. It’s seeking to get your independence and autonomy needs met, to not accept things without knowing they are valuable.
Then, entertain for a moment:
“If Self-Love were valuable, what would that mean for my life?”
No need to dogmatically believe in Self-Love.
Just play with it. 🙂
